The Don Julin Standards Trio
Not your typical jazz experience
The Don Julin Standards Trio brings a fresh twist to the jazz scene, blending the elegance of classical chamber music with the raw soul and improvisational spirit of a jazz trio. This is not your typical jazz experience—it's a rare and captivating fusion that's as sophisticated as it is innovative.
Don Julin, celebrated as one of the most versatile mandolin players in the country, has shared the stage and studio with Michigan legends like Billy Strings, Claudia Schmidt, and Ron Getz. While the mandolin has been his signature instrument, Don's deep-rooted passion for jazz shines through in every note. "Jazz isn't about the instrument—it's a language," says Julin. "And there's something magical about hearing that language spoken through acoustic strings."
The Standards Trio delves into the rich repertoire of post-bop and cool jazz, featuring works by icons such as Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk, alongside a few of Julin's original compositions. With Ron Getz, a Berklee-trained guitarist who's collaborated with jazz greats like John Scofield, and Bruce Dondero, a master of the upright bass inspired by Ray Brown, this trio delivers a timeless and refreshingly unique sound.
So, dust off your skinny tie, shake up a martini, and join us for an unforgettable evening of jazz with Don Julin's Standards Trio—a rare Michigan performance you won't want to miss.
